Friedman conducts Gliere

Jay Friedman will conduct Gliere’s monumental symphony No. 3 (Ilya Mourometz) with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago on Tuesday evening February 28, 8PM. Scored for a Mahler-sized orchestra of over 100 players, this work has some of the most virtuosic woodwind and brass writing in the symphonic repertoire. A brass section of 8 horns, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and tuba tells the exploits of one of old Russia’s most revered legendary heroes. Tickets are free and can be ordered at cso.org, 312-294-3000 or at the door at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan, Chicago.
